Interventions in the electronic components and
the respective software can lead to
malfunctions. Due to the networking of
electronic components, malfunctions can also
involve systems which are not directly related.
This seriously compromises the driving safety of
the vehicle through increased abrasion of
vehicle parts and, ultimately, loss of operability.
The Volkswagen Dealer cannot provide a
warranty against damage caused by technical
modifications and improper repairs.
The Volkswagen dealer is not liable for damage
caused by improper technical modifications and
repairs. Such damage is also not covered by the
Volkswagen warranty.
Volkswagen recommends that all technical
modifications and repairs be carried out at
authorised
Volkswagen
Volkswagen Genuine Parts.
WARNING
Improperly performed repairs and modifications
can cause malfunctions and damage to the
vehicle and compromise the effectiveness of the
driver assistance system. This can lead to
accidents and serious injuries.
● Repairs and modifications to the vehicle may
only be carried out by a Volkswagen
Dealer.
Repairs and limitations of the
airbag system
In the case of repairs and technical modifications,
the Volkswagen guidelines
adhered to!
Modifications and repairs to the front bumper,
doors, roof lining or bodywork must only be
carried out by a dealer.

must be strictly
During all work on the airbag system, such as
the installation and removal of airbag parts for
other repairs, it is possible that parts of the
airbag system may be damaged. This may result
in the airbags not working or not working
properly in the event of an accident.
To ensure that the effectiveness of the airbags
is not impaired and that dismantled parts do
not cause injury or pollute the environment,
the regulations must be observed. These
regulations are known to Volkswagen dealers.
An alteration to the vehicle's suspension may
compromise the function of the airbag system
in an impact. For example, using a wheel/tyre
combination which has not been approved by
Volkswagen and which causes a lowering of the
vehicle by altering the stiffness of the
suspension, including the springs, spring arm,
shock absorber, etc., may cause a change in
the reaction of the airbag sensors which send
the information to the electronic control unit.
Some modifications to the springs may, for
example, cause changes in the suspension and
consequently alter the reaction of the sensors
and trigger the airbag system in impact
scenarios, in which the airbags would normally
not be triggered if the modifications had not
been made. Other modifications may change
the reaction measured by the sensors and
prevent the airbag from being triggered if it
needs to be activated.
WARNING
Improperly performed repairs and
modifications can cause malfunctions and
damage to the vehicle and compromise the
effectiveness of the airbag system. This can
lead to accidents and serious or fatal injuries.
● Repairs and modifications to the vehicle may
only be carried out by a Volkswagen
Dealer.
● Airbag modules cannot be repaired, but
can be replaced.
● Never install airbag parts removed from
older vehicles or recycling processes in the
vehicle.
