Outdoor lighting
Introduction to the topic
Before replacing an incandescent lamp, make
sure that it is an incandescent lamp or an LED
light that has burnt out. As a general rule, you
can replace incandescent lamps yourself. If the
exterior lighting, depending on the version and
model, is LED technology, you cannot replace
LEDs or individual LEDs yourself. Burn-out of
individual LEDs may be an indication of possible
burn-out of other LEDs. In this case, the lights
must be checked and, if necessary, replaced by a
specialist company.
Replacing a bulb requires professional
expertise. If in doubt, Volkswagen therefore
recommends having the bulb replaced by a
Volkswagen Dealer or a specialist company. In
principle, a technician is required if, in addition
to the respective bulbs, other parts of the
vehicle have to be removed.
It is recommended to always carry a small box
on board the vehicle with the spare bulbs
required for traffic safety. Replacement bulbs
are available at Volkswagen dealerships.
Driving with burnt-out external lighting devices
may be illegal.
Additional bulb specifications
Some incandescent lamps may have certain
factory specifications that differ from
conventional incandescent lamps. The respective
designation is stated on the lampholder or on
the glass bulb.
