– Disconnect the auxiliary starter cable with the
engine running exactly in the sequence 4 - 3
- 2 - 1.
– Close the positive terminal cover.
WARNING
An incorrectly executed starting aid can lead to
an explosion of the vehicle battery and serious
injury. To reduce the risk of an explosion of the
vehicle battery, please observe the following. :
● All work on the vehicle's battery and
electrical system can cause severe burns,
fires and electric shocks. . Before any work
on the vehicle battery, always read and
observe the following safety warnings and
precautions
p. 278, Vehicle battery.
● Make sure that there are no persons inside
the vehicle when connecting the auxiliary
cables to the battery. In the event of an
electrical fault, the airbags may be
triggered accidentally, resulting in serious or
even fatal injuries to the vehicle occupants.
● Always wear suitable eye protection and
never lean over the vehicle battery.
● Connect the wires in the correct sequence -
positive wire first, then negative wire.
● Never attach the negative cable to parts
of the fuel system or brake pipes.
● Non-insulated parts of the pole clamps
must not touch each other. In addition, the
cable attached to the positive pole of the
vehicle's battery must not come into
contact with live parts of the vehicle.
● Check the vehicle's battery indicator and, if
necessary, use a torch. If it is light yellow or
colourless, do not use the starting aid and
seek specialised technical assistance.
● Avoid electrostatic discharges on the
vehicle battery in- mediations. Detonating
gas escaping from the vehicle battery can
be ignited by the formation of sparks.
● Never run the starting aid if the vehicle's
trunk is damaged, frozen or has been
thawed.
NOTICE
An incorrectly connected auxiliary jumper cable
can cause considerable damage.

When towing, observe the legal regulations.
A vehicle with a discharged battery must not be
towed for technical reasons.
For technical reasons, the vehicle must not be
started. Instead, use the starting aid
p. 258.
A vehicle with automatic transmission must
not be towed for technical reasons unless it
can be ensured that the transmission is in the
N
p. 261 position.
When towing the vehicle with the engine
switched off and the ignition switched on, the
vehicle battery is discharged depending on the
charge of the vehicle battery, after only a few
minutes the voltage drop may be so great that
no electrical consumers inside the vehicle, e.g.
warning lights, will function.
WARNING
Never tow a vehicle without 12 V electrical
current.
● Never remove the vehicle key from the
ignition.
● If, during the towing process, the vehicle
should lose 12 V electrical power,
immediately stop the towing operation and
seek specialist technical assistance.
