Troubleshooting
Warning lights and fault monitoring
Do not continue! Brake system malfunction-
do. Immediately find a Volkswagen dealer or a
specialised company
If it comes on: ABS out of function
or defective. Find a Volkswagen dealer or
a specialised company. The vehicle can
be braked without ABS.
If it is switched on: ESC is switched off for
system-related reasons. Switch ignition
off and on again. Drive a short distance at
15-20 km/h if necessary. If is still on,
contact a Volkswagen dealer or specialist
company.
Guidance for Brake Assist Systems
When a fault is suspected, read and observe the
following guidance:
– Only when all four wheels are fitted with the
same type and model of tyre can ESC and
ASR function correctly. Different tyre
diameters can cause an unexpected reduction
in engine power.
– In the event of a malfunction of the ABS,
the ESC, ASR and EDS will not function
either.
– Operating noises may occur when regulating
the described systems.
WARNING
Driving with poor quality brakes can cause
accidents and serious injuries.
● If the brake system warning light
comes on together with the ABS control light
, the ABS operation may be malfunctioning.
It is therefore possible for the rear wheels
to lock relatively quickly during braking.
Rear wheels causing locking can lead to
loss of control of the vehicle! If possible,
reduce speed and drive carefully at a
minimum speed to the nearest Volkswagen
Dealer to check the braking system. During
the journey, avoid sudden steering and
braking manoeuvres.
.
● When the ABS control light does not go
out or come on during driving, the ABS is
not working properly. The vehicle can only
be stopped with the normal brakes
(without ABS). The protection provided by
ABS is not available in this case. Find a
Volkswagen Dealer as soon as possible.
