ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM
CAUTION SYSTEM
CAUTION SYSTEM
The following three caution systems alert the operator when an abnormality occurs on the engine.
• NO OIL
• WATER TEMPERATURE
• CHECK ENGINE
Over-Revolution Caution System
CONDITION:
When the engine speed exceeds 6500 rpm, the ECM initiates intermittent fuel injection and ignition sig­
nals to provide a maximum engine speed of 6500 rpm (Over-revolution limiter).
ACTION:
Engine speed
I
Automatically reduced to approx. 3000 rpm by intermittent fuel injection and ignition
signals.
RESET:
Glose throttle to reduce engine speed below approx. 3000 rpm for one second.
Low Oil Pressure Caution System
CONDITION:
lmmediate activation of system when the oíl pressure switch turns "ON" dueto an engine oil pressure
drop below 100 kPa (1.0 kg / cm
2 ,
14 psi).
ACTION:
Engine speed
Automatically reduced to approx. 3000 rpm by intermittent fuel injection and ignition
signal if the system is activated at 3000 rpm or higher.
Caution lamp
"Oil" lamp lights continuously.
Caution buzzer Sounds for ten seconds.
RESET:
Stop engine and check engine oíl level. Refill engine oil to the correct level if below the low oil mark. lf
the engine oil level is correct, the following causes may be considered:
• lmproper oil viscosity.
• Malfunctioning oil pressure switch.
• Clogged oil strainer or oíl filter.
• Worn oil pump relief valve.
• Oíl leakage from oil passage.
• Excessive wear / damage of oil pump.
NOTE:
The Jow oil pressure caution system is reset when the oil pressure is restored to over 1.0 kglcm2 with
approx. 3000 rpm or less engine speed operation. However, the engine must be stopped and checked
immediately once the system is activated.
