3.1 Ethernet Infrastructure

The fabric switch infrastructure is composed of
• Broadcom StrataXGS®III Chip BCM56526 with 28 SGMII + 6 HiGig Port Gigabit Ethernet Layer-2/3
Switch
• Three Broadcom BCM54680 OctalPHYs for copper based backplane links
• Three Broadcom BCM8727 dual 10GbE PHYs for front panel 1/10GbE uplinks with Multirate SFP+ sup-
port
Line rate switching for all packet sizes and conditions is supported on following interfaces:
• 23x Link Ports to Node boards [10/100/1000Base-T via external Copper PHY]
• 1x Link Port to Fabric board [10/100/1000Base-T via external Copper PHY]
• 8 front panel uplinks:
• 6x 10GBase-X SFP+ uplinks to front panel
• 2x 1GBase-X SFP uplinks to the front panel, 2x 1G uplinks per port configurable to SGMII for
'Copper-SFPs' supporting 10/100/1000Base-T operation
The CPCI interface numbering is according to the PICMG 2.16 Specification, labelled 1 to 23 (Node Slots) and
F (other Fabric Slot). The on-board management software identifies the interfaces as 0/1 to 0/24, continu-
ing to 0/33 for the front panel ports. The LED numbering on the front panel corresponds to this numbering
scheme.
