Symptom
Possible Cause
Engine does not
Improper Proportional, Integral, and Derivative (PID)
reach set speed
tuning values.
Integral value is too low or zero.
Derivative value is too low or zero (load share model).
PID values are too low. A tuning that is too soft can
prevent the governor from delivering the needed
actuator drive signal to reach the set speed.
PID values are too high. Tuning is too hot or
oversensitive to small speed errors causing the
governor to make large, rapid changes in actuator drive
signal, creating an average signal that is inadequate.
The integral low limit setting is too high.
The integral high limit setting is too low.

Startup rate setting is too low.
Accel rate setting is too low.
Speed filter setting is too high.

Is the selected set speed parameter being modified?
A PID value or an OVG value is too high.
A PID value is too low or zero.
Accel rate is set too low.
Decel rate is set too low.
Excessive smoke
Improper PID tuning values.

The startup rate is too high.
The startup limit is too high.
No/low MPU speed signal present. MPU should be
2.0 VRMS minimum.

load changes
Improper PID tuning values.
Speed filter setting is too high.
Engine instability
Improper PID tuning values.
with no load
Speed filter setting is too low.
Fuel flow is restricted.
Battery voltage is too low.
Engine instability
Improper PID tuning values.
with load
Fuel flow is restricted.
Battery voltage is too low.
Engine unable to
PID values may be too high, causing the governor to
carry rated load
overreact and make large, rapid changes in PWM duty
cycle output to the actuator.
Improper PID tuning values.
Torque limit is set too low (load share model).
Fuel flow is restricted.

performance.
Actuator linkage range too small.

Remedy
Check and adjust the PID values.
Increase the integral value.
Increase the derivative value.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Decrease PID tuning values.
Return the integral low limit value to the default setting of zero.
Return the integral high limit value to the default setting of 99.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Increase the integral value.
Increase the startup rate value.
Increase the Accel rate value.
Decrease the speed filter value.
If yes, enter password.
If yes, speed setting display is unavailable during changes.
Decrease the PID values or OVG value.
Increase the PID value.
Increase the Accel rate value.
Increase the Decel rate value.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Use a lower startup rate value.
Use a lower startup limit value.
Adjust the MPU gap. Try reversing the MPU leads; otherwise,
replace the MPU.
Decrease the gain value.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Decrease the speed filter value.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Increase the speed filter value.
Check actuator linkage.
Charge or replace the battery.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Check actuator linkage.
Charge or replace the battery.
Check and decrease the PID values.
Check and adjust the PID values.
Increase the torque limit.
Check actuator linkage.
Check ILS wiring; otherwise, replace the ILS.
Use shielded wiring.
Perform the droop calibration procedure.
Adjust the no load and/or full load calibration values.
Modify or adjust actuator linkage to increase range of actuator
loading.
