10 Safety Features
The STED system is available with a flexible or a compact supply unit. Note the safety features
described here that apply to your supply unit.
10.1
Laser Safety Chamber for Multi-Photon Applications
The laser safety chamber (see Figure 10) protects the user from scattered laser radiation, replacing
the safety glasses for infrared lasers.
The laser safety chamber must be connected to the interlock circuit at all times. All doors of the laser
safety chamber are equipped with safety contacts. When a door is opened, the light path of the laser
beam is interrupted. The light path remains interrupted until all doors have been closed.
The viewing window (see Figure 10, item 1) offers protection from the scattered radiation of the
infrared lasers provided by Leica Microsystems CMS GmbH.

10.2.1
Compact Supply Unit
In order to switch the power off on the compact supply unit, the power plug must be disconnected.
10.2.2
Flexible Supply Unit
The main circuit breaker is located on the right rear side of the flexible supply unit. It is used to de-
energize the complete system using a single switch (see Figure 11).
The main circuit breaker functions as a switch and as an overcurrent fuse. The main circuit breaker
is not to be used as the regular on/off switch for the system.
