ActiveScale™ P100 Support Guide

Figure 6-4. Uplinks illustrated

This completes the hardware setup for scaling out by one additional system.

6.6.1 Software steps for scaling out

Warning: If your system is running ActiveScale OS 5.0.1, stop. Contact
Western Digital Support to update the host names of all components on all your
systems before you follow this procedure.
Before following these steps, complete the hardware steps in the ActiveScale P100 ActiveScale X100
Installation Guide at each site. You can only scale out incrementally (one new system at a time at each
site).
At this point, all nodes in the new system have link local IP addresses and ActiveScale OS pre-installed on
them.
Important: The existing system(s) must be in a stable state before scaling out.
The scale out job checks data safety levels when it starts. If a system is freshly
installed, or if you just completed one scale out, wait 10-15 minutes for the
system to stabilize and to update its data safety levels. This is particularly
important if you purchased multiple systems for an initial install. Systems that
have been running for some time may report a lowered data safety after a scale
out. You must resolve any data safety issues before attempting to scale out. If the
data safety of the system is not optimal or there are failed drives, fix the issues by
replacing the drives before starting this procedure.
Warning: Components in the new system might have newer firmware than your
existing components have. This procedure does not upgrade or downgrade any
firmware.
Warning: Do not start a log collection job while a scale out job is running.
1. Start the scale out wizard.
Important: On multi-site deployments, start this wizard from any one site. You
only need to run it at one site.
