TABLE VIII-II. TROUBLESHOOTING CHART (TURBOCHARGER)
Trouble
Cause
Remedy
Excessive noise or vibration.
Improper bearing lubrication.
Supply required oil pressure.
Clean or replace oil line; clean
oil strainer. If trouble persists,
overhaul turbocharger.
Leak in engine intake or
exhaust manifold.
Dirty impeller blades.
Tighten loose connections or
replace manifold gaskets as
necessary.
Disassemble and clean.
Engine will not deliver rated
power.
Clogged manifold system.
Foreign material lodged in
compressor impeller or turbine.
Clear all ducting.
Disassemble and clean.

Excessive dirt build-up in com-
pressor, or on compressor
wheel.
Leak in engine intake or
exhaust.
Rotating assembly bearing
seizure.
Restriction in oil lines from
actuator to wastegate controller
or from engine to actuator.
Wastegate controller is in
need of adjustment.
Oil pressure too low to close
wastegate.
Inlet orifice to actuator
clogged.
Wastegate out of adjustment.
Waste gate controller
malfunction.
Thoroughly clean compressor
assembly. Service air cleaner
and check for leakage.
Tighten loose connections
or replace manifold gaskets
as necessary.
Overhaul turbocharger.
Remove and clean lines.
Have wastegate controller
adjusted.
Tighten fittings. Replace lines
or hoses. Increase oil pressure
to desired pressure.
Remove inlet line at actuator
and clean orifice.
Adjust.
Replace unit.
