Chapter 1. Introduction

This Problem Determination and Service Guide contains information to help you
solve problems that might occur in your IBM
system-board tray, System x iDataPlex 2U Flex Chassis, or System x iDataPlex 3U
Chassis. It describes the diagnostic tools that are available, error codes and
suggested actions, and instructions for replacing failing components.
Replaceable components are of three types:
v Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your
v Tier 2 customer replaceable unit: You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or
v Field replaceable unit (FRU): FRUs must be installed only by trained service
