Figure 2.2 shows possible configurations of the TO memory. The maximum number of the
single-edge tools (WZ
) that can be stored depends on the assignment of the P memories:

The maximum number of tools that can be stored decreases in accordance with the number of
additional cutting edges available for the first cutting edge of multi-edge tools.
Structure of the TO memory
The TO memory is a two-dimensional matrix, divided up into columns and rows. The columns
represent the P memories where the tool data is stored. The tool data is stored line by line in
the individual P memories in the form of offset blocks. Each cutting edge requires one offset
block.

Assignment of the TO memory
The lines of the TO memory are addressed via a D No. The number of memory lines available
can be subdivided into TO areas; at present, however, only TO area 1 is supported by
package 1 and 2.
As already mentioned in conjunction with "Configuration of the TO memory", the number of
P memories varies between P 9 and P 15/P31 depending on the scope of application with
SINUMERIK 840/840C. Both the number of P memories and TO areas is specified in the form
of NC machine data (see Section 10, Data areas).
