If a failure is detected in the power-up test, the following failure message is displayed:
HP98643 (LAN) at 21, 080009000001 Failed
This message shows that one of the internal tests on the interface failed. The tests in-
clude register operations, shared ram, non-volatile ram checksum and several different
internal loopback tests.
If extended testing is selected from the Test Menu, the LAN interface is subject to both
the normal testing and the external loopback tests. LAN error messages (see Table 4-5)
may be displayed below the LAN identification message.
If no servers respond to the Boot ROM's attempts to initiate a boot session, then the
user sees no other indication of LAN activity. For each server that responds, the
display shows the following :LAN, followed by the select code, followed by either the
servers name or its Link Address. Under this will appear the list of systems provided by
that server as shown in the following example:

Meaning and What To Do
LAN interface cable not properly terminated. Connect cable or
terminate LAN
MAU circuit failed. On AUI LAN, could mean MAU is not
connected. Check LAN connections or replace CPU board.
LAN self-test, done after each transmission, is failing. Replace
CPU board.
Server could not open file, or file was wrong type. Check file system
or mass storage device.
Server did not respond to boot request. Check server.
LAN hardware power-up or reset failed. Try again. If error repeats,
replace CPU board.
File open worked, but server has since failed to respond or has sent
an end of file message. Check server.
LAN hardware failed to respond to some operation or it reported a
catastrophic failure. Replace CPU board.
Boot ROM LAN code damaged. Replace CPU board.
