X Windows System Performance Profiler
The X Windows System Performance Profiler (Xprof) tool helps you analyze the performance
of your parallel or serial application. The tool uses procedure-profiling information to construct
a graphical display of the functions within your application. Xprof provides quick access to the
profiled data, which helps you identify the functions that are the most CPU-intensive. By using
the GUI, you also manipulate the display to focus on the critical areas of the application.
When you select the Flat Profile menu option, the Flat Profile window appears, as shown in
Figure 2-17 on page 141. The Flat Profile report shows you the total execution times and call
counts for each function (including shared library calls) within your application. The entries for
the functions that use the greatest percentage of the total CPU usage appear at the top of the
list that is based on the amount of time used.
