DRIVEABILITY - NGC
P0068-MANIFOLD PRESSURE/THROTTLE POSITION CORRELATION -
HIGH FLOW/VACUUM LEAK DETECTED —
TEST
5 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the TPS harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
CAUTION: DO NOT PROBE THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS. PROBING
THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS WILL DAMAGE THE PCM TERMI-
NALS RESULTING IN POOR TERMINAL TO PIN CONNECTION. INSTALL
MILLER SPECIAL TOOL #8815 TO PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
Measure the resistance of the 5 Volt Supply circuit from the TPS harness connector
to the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 6
→ Repair the high resistance in the TPS 5 Volt Supply circuit.
No
6 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the TPS harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the 5 Volt Supply circuit at the TPS
harness connector.
Is the resistance above 100k ohms?
Yes → Go To 7
→ Repair the resistance to ground in the 5 Volt Supply circuit.
No
7 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the TPS harness connector.
With the DRBIII , monitor the TPS voltage.
Ignition on, engine not running.
Connect a jumper wire between the TPS Signal circuit and the Sensor ground circuit
.
Does the TPS voltage change from approximately 4.9 volts to below 0.5 of a volt?
Yes → Replace the Throttle Position Sensor.
→ Go To 8
No
8 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the TPS harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
CAUTION: DO NOT PROBE THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS. PROBING
THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS WILL DAMAGE THE PCM TERMI-
NALS RESULTING IN POOR TERMINAL TO PIN CONNECTION. INSTALL
MILLER SPECIAL TOOL #8815 TO PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
Measure the resistance of the TPS Signal circuit from the TPS harness connector to
the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 9
→ Repair the high resistance in the TPS Signal circuit.
No
ACTION
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
