3. Locate the heat sink and fan assembly. Then, disconnect the cable of the heat sink and fan assembly
from the CPU fan connector on the system board. See "Server components" on page 22.
Note: If there is any PCIe card installed on the system board, it might block your access to the heat sink
and fan assembly. In this case, remove the PCIe card. See "Removing a PCIe card" on page 61.
4. Remove the four screws that secure the heat sink and fan assembly to the system board. It is
recommended that you carefully remove the four screws from the system board using the following
method to avoid any possible damage to the system board.
a. Partially remove screw
completely remove it.
b. Partially remove screw
completely remove it.
Note: The four screws are integrated parts of the heat sink and fan assembly. Do not try to remove the
four screws from the heat sink and fan assembly.

5. Gently twist the heat sink and fan assembly to free it from the CPU, and then lift the heat sink and fan
assembly off the system board.
6. If you are instructed to return the old heat sink and fan assembly, follow all packaging instructions and
use any packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.
