8. USER INTERFACE, SETTINGS and OPERATION
8.1 User interface and settings
There are four top-level pages in the touch-screen user interface:
HOME PAGE showing:
o the measured values for Black Carbon (measured at 880 nm, BC, Ch6) and UV
particulate matter (measured at 370 nm, UVPM, Ch1),
o measured flow,
o timebase setting,
o tape adv. left (the amount of remaining tape),
o status: green (all OK), yellow (check status), and red (stopped) with a status flag
(see section 8.2 Instrument Status). Interpretation of the Instrument Status Code
is shown by pressing the colored circular status icon on the Home screen.
o date and time, instrument Serial Number.
Note: The BC and UVPM values will typically be similar, but not exactly the same. If
aromatic compounds are present in the sampled air (such as when sampling fresh
wood-smoke, for example), the UVPM concentration will exceed the BC mass
concentration value significantly, depending upon the amount and type of organic
material present.
