If you use 100m cable that is not within the 10BASE-T specification, and
the device does not work, the problem is typically not related to the
power supply.
For international users, the adapter (3C10125-xx) on the power line kit is
provided with the relevant pins for the country of use.
When used in Australia, you must connect the equipment to the
telephone network via a line isolating unit (LIU) complying with ACA
TS001 - 1997.
WARNING: Australia only: This equipment will be inoperable when
mains power fails.
3Com Ethernet Power Source (EPS) is an intelligent power device that can
be used in the network over existing data wiring. The EPS creates a single,
continuous source of power.
The power source is designed for use with a standard
10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet network over standard TIA/EIA-568,
Category 5 cable. The DC operating power for the data terminal units is
fed through the unused pairs (7/8) and (4/5).
See the 3Com Ethernet Power Source documentation for installation and
configuration information.
You can connect a computer directly to the NCP and use a VT100
terminal emulation program to view the start-up messages and change IP
configuration information.
It does not matter which type of computer operating system you use. As
long as the computer has a terminal emulation program that can emulate
a VT100 terminal, such as a Microsoft Hyper Terminal, it can
communicate with the NCP.
1 Using a standard computer serial cable, connect the male end of the
cable to the female COM1 connector on the front of the NBX 100 NCP,
and connect the other end of the serial cable to a serial port on the
computer.
2 Start the terminal emulation software and create a new connection.
3 Configure the connection to use the following properties:
OMPONENTS
