MEASURING THE ENGINE COOLING
WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR
RESISTANCE
Measure:
• Engine cooling water temperature
sensor resistance
Out of specification → Replace.
Engine cooling water
temperature sensor resistance
Black/yellow (B/Y) – Black (B)
5 ˚C (41 ˚F): 4.62 kΩ
20 ˚C (68 ˚F): 2.44 kΩ
100 ˚C (212 ˚F): 0.19 kΩ
Measuring steps
(1) Place the engine cooling water tem-
perature sensor in a container filled
with water.
(2) Place a thermometer in the water.
(3) Slowly heat the water.
(4) Measure the resistance when the spec-
ified temperature is reached.
