TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

This chapter provides solutions for problems that you might encounter when using the
SonicWALL Transaction Security appliance. If you are unable to solve your problem, please
visit SonicWALL's Technical Support Web site at <http://support.sonicwall.com>. There,
you will find resources to help you resolve most technical issues, and instructions for
contacting SonicWALL's Technical Support engineers.
The Link LED is off.
Make sure the appliance is powered on.
Make sure the cable connections are secure. Gently moving the cable back and
forth should not make the Link LED turn on and off. If you still believe a bad cable
may be at fault, try a cable that you know is "good".
Make sure you are using the correct type of cable. Use a straight-through cable to
attach the appliance to a switch or hub. Use a crossover cable to connect the
appliance to a NIC.
Make sure to use standard, properly wired cables.
One POWER LED is unlit on the SSL-R.
Check the associated power switch and breaker to which the power supply is
connected and any intervening surge suppressors to ensure power is still available.
If power is still available on the circuit, the power supply indicated by the unlit LED
may have failed, and the other power supply has kept connections viable. Contact
SonicWALL Technical Support to arrange replacement of the failed power supply.
The configuration manager cannot find the appliance on the network.
Make sure the cable segment is compliant with 100Base-TX recommendations. The
length should not exceed 100 meters (328 feet).
Make sure the speed and duplex settings on the appliance and other device agree.
Using the configuration manager as described in Chapter 5 Configuration
Manager, enter the show interface command to display the settings for the
appliance's Ethernet interfaces. (See "Top Level Command Set" in Chapter
C Command Summary.)
Make sure you have a valid networking topology.
Make sure the computer you are using the configure the appliance is on the same
subnet and VLAN (if applicable) as the appliance. Once the appliance is configured
with an IP address, you can attach it from any point in the network by using the
attach ip command. If you are running the configuration manager and install a
