Create a Point-To-Point Protocol Group

• Definition of a PPP group
• Steps for creating and configuring the PPP group
• PPP example
• Steps for adding a link to the PPP group
PPP Group Definition
Creating a PPP group provides a way to bond, or join, several physical links, such as multiple
T1s, into a single group. As part of the creation, a peer IP address, default gateway, and DNS
addresses are assigned to the group.
PPP is used in networking and is a data link protocol that transports data packets between
two networking nodes via a simultaneous, bi‐directional connection over synchronous and
ansynchronous circuits. The data packets are delivered in order and can be used over a variety
of hosts, or network layer protocols.
PPP depends on two separate protocols for operation: LCP and NCP. LCP is necessary to
verify, configure, and test the link connections. NCP is an assembly of protocols used to verify
and configure the variety of network layer protocols over which PPP can be used. PPP is also
capable of being used over such physical networks as serial cable, phone line, and trunk line.
PPP is used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), which use encapsulated forms of PPP to
access Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) internet, which are Point‐to‐Point Protocol over Ethernet
(PPPoE) and Point‐to‐Point Protocol over ATM (PPPoA).
