Inspect the charcoal canister for
fuel saturation.

Is excess amount of liquid fuel
present in canister?
Verify test results.
• If normal, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
(See ENGINE SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING
• If malfunction remains, inspect related Service information perform repair or diagnosis.

- If vehicle repaired, troubleshooting completed.
- If vehicle not repaired or additional diagnostic information not available, replace the
PCM.

DESCRIPTION Incorrect spark plug condition
Wet/carbon stuck on specific plug:
• Spark-Weak, not visible
POSSIBLE
• Air/fuel mixture-Excessive fuel injection volume
CAUSE
• Compression-No compression, low compression
• Malfunction spark plug
Grayish white with specific plug:
• Air/fuel mixture-Insufficient fuel injection volume

• Inspecting spark plugs condition can determine whether problem is related to
a specific cylinder possibly all cylinders.

High:
Replace the fuel pump unit.
(See FUEL PUMP UNIT
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
Replace the charcoal canister.
Inspect the fuel tank vent system.
• If the fuel tank vent system is normal, suggest
trying a different brand since sulfur content can
vary in different fuels.
• If the fuel tank vent system is not normal, repair or
replace the malfunctioning part.
