SERVICE INFORMATION
CHOKE CONTROL SYSTEM (ACS)
With the engine cold,
remove the paper
element and check
the choke valve.
Closed
Start the engine and
check to see if the
choke opens within
1 ~ 2 minutes.
Start the engine, If the choke doesn't open after 1 ~ 2
minutes, push the choke control linkage by hand and
confirm it moves freely and springs back. If it does, the
thermowax is faulty. If it binds, remove the carburetor and
inspect the choke control assembly and carburetor choke
arm for binding.

If the choke is open when the
totally open
engine is cold, remove the
carburetor from the engine, and
separate the choke control
assembly from the carburetor.
Rotate the choke arm on the
carburetor and confirm it snaps
back to the closed position.
Abnormal
Replace the carburetor
and thermowax.
Opens too
Allow the engine to cool. Push
slowly or
the choke valve open and
does not
release it. The choke should
open
open smoothly and snap
closed when released.

If it operates properly, replace the
thermowax assembly (P.
Visually inspect for wax leaks.
Measure the retracted length and
confirm it is more than 21.5 mm.
Apply Hondabond HT to the base of
the thermowax during installation
(P. 7-14).
