Operational Troubleshooting

This section provides troubleshooting information, voltage test points and POST
errors for the original Workstation 4 System Boards, AB28 and ABRD36.

Original Workstation 4 Boot Sequence

The following procedure describes the boot sequence of the original workstation 4
system board.
1. Connect the AC Power cord to AC inlet at the rear of the workstation. If available,
connect the workstation to a LAN. Press and release the power button mounted
under the right hand side of the chassis.
When the power button is released, the Operator LED should start flashing Amber
once every four seconds.
Does the Operator LED illuminate?
If YES, Proceed to Step 2.
If NO, see Testing the Power Supply on page 3-8.
If the Power Button sticks, see page 3-21.
2. The Operator LED should flash Amber, once every four seconds.
Is the Operator LED flashing Amber?
If YES, proceed to Step 3.
If NO, is the Operator LED solid Amber? This condition is accompanied by
other symptoms including no beeper, and no blue screen.
3. The beeper should sound once. At same time, backlights should turn on, and a
blue screen with the MICROS logo should appear.
Does the blue screen with MICROS logo appear?
If YES, proceed to Step 4.
If NO, see the LCD Display related section on page 3-14.

Corrupt boot loader U24, P/N 100111-007. This can happen if a power
failure occurs while the boot loader is being flashed by the DOCUTIL
program as part of a boot loader upgrade.
The DIMM is not properly seated. Remove the AC power cable from the
unit and install the DIMM properly. You should hear a click sound as the
DIMM is seated in the socket.
System Board Problem. DIMM or DIMM socket or boot loader socket is
damaged or defective.
System Board Problem. Defective oscillator X2. Use a scope to check
U17-1 (near the CF connector). You should see a sine wave with a period
about 30ns.
