Customer Display/Mag Card Reader Port (COM3)

Customer Display/Mag Card Reader Port (COM3)

REF: AB28 Sheets 18 and 19
UART2 in Super IO U15, is dedicated to COM3. The system board revision
determines how this port is configured, as described in the sections below.

COM3 Configuration - AB28-F and AB28-G

On all WS4 system boards, COM3 is shared between the Mag Stripe Reader and
Customer Display interfaces. Figure 2-22 shows how these devices are attached to
the COM3 UART on the AB28-F and AB28-G System Boards. The Mag Stripe
Reader sends card swipe data to U15 over the RXD3 line, while TXD3 carries
serial data to customer display connectors J1 and CN4. Note that J1 and CN4 do
not include a RX pin, and Mag Stripe Reader connector CN10 does not include a
TX Pin. The interface speed is 9600 baud.

As the WS4 entered production in 2003, support for an optional IEE 2x20 pole
display was included. An integrated version of the 2x20 VFD customer display
was not available.
The LCD Customer Display
In late 2004, a new customer display option, the MICROS LCD Customer Display
was introduced. See page 2-44 for more information about this display. The
graphics capable 240x64 Customer Display serial interface runs at a baud rate of
115K. The LCD Customer Display is an intelligent device, including an 8-bit
micro controller with programmable firmware.
Two versions of the LCD Customer Display are available.
A Rear or integrated version that physically attaches to the workstation and
receives power and data from system board connector J1.
Pole mount version that receives power and data from CN4 on the IO panel.
