Locking and unlocking
To unlock
Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position
while moving the steering wheel slightly right and
left.

CAUTION
l
Carry the key with you when leaving the
vehicle.
If your vehicle needs to be towed, turn
the ignition switch to the "ACC" position
to unlock the steering wheel.
Starting
Tips for starting
l
Do not operate the starter motor continuous-
ly longer than 10 seconds; doing so could
run down the battery. If the engine does not
start, turn the ignition switch back to
"LOCK", wait a few seconds, and then try
again.
Trying repeatedly with the starter motor still
turning will damage the starter mechanism.
1-14
l
After starting the engine in cold weather,
drive in a way that keeps the engine speed
low until the bar graph of engine coolant tem-
perature display starts to move (the engine
speed decreases). Otherwise, the engine will
not rev smoothly and the vehicle will move
jerkily.
l
On vehicles equipped with the Twin Clutch
SST, the following may occur after the en-
gine is started, but they do not indicate an ab-
normality.
• You may hear operational sounds of the
Twin Clutch SST and you may feel vibra-
tion in the vehicle body.
• If you shift the gearshift lever into the
"N" (NEUTRAL) position and depress
the accelerator pedal, increases in the en-
gine speed will be limited.
WARNING
l
Never run the engine in a closed or poor-
ly ventilated area any longer than is nee-
ded to move your vehicle in or out of the
area. Carbon monoxide gases are odour-
less and can be fatal.

CAUTION
l
Never attempt to start the engine by push-
ing or pulling the vehicle. Especially the
Twin Clutch SST, since the structure is
different from a M/T it is not possible to
start the engine by using this technique.
Never attempt this or it could damage the
Twin Clutch SST.

CAUTION
l
Do not run the engine at high rpm or
drive the vehicle at high speed until the en-
gine has had a chance to warm up.
l
Release the ignition switch as soon as the
engine starts to avoid damaging the start-
er motor.
