Engine oil change

(Inspections I, II, III and IV)

Note:
Drain the engine oil only when it is at normal operat-
ing temperature

Caution:
Note the precautions which must be taken if the en-
gine is run in an enclosed space
Cleaning oil strainer and magnetic
plug
(Inspections I, II, III and IV)

Secure the oil guide, BMW No. 11 7 661, to the
exhaust
•
Remove the oil drain plug (1) and the screw of the
oil strainer (2)
•
Clean magnetic plug
•
Remove cover of oil filter
•
Replace oil filter element

Note:
Replace sealing rings of oil drain plugs

Tightening torque:
Oil filter cover ............................................... 10 Nm
Oil drain plug, magnetic ............................... 20 Nm
Threaded plug, oil strainer............................ 30 Nm
•
Top up engine oil through oil filler neck
Materials:
Engine oil ...............................1.0 l (1.76 Imp. pints)
Brand-name HD oil, API classification SF, SG or SH;
suffix letters CD or CE are permitted; alternatively,
brand-name HD oil of CCMC classification G4 or
G5; suffix PD2 is permitted
•
Add oil up to the "MAX" mark on the dipstick
•
Run the engine briefly, then stop it, check oil lev-
el again and add more oil if necessary
•
Check coolant, top up if necessary

Changing gearbox oil

(Inspections II and III)

•
Remove drain plug
•
Pour in fresh oil via filter neck
