Checking shoes and spring clips for wear

•
Mount shoes and spring clips on driver.
•
Position driver on inner plate.
•
Press gently in clockwise direction to force
against guides.
•
Use 0.5 mm (0.02 in) feeler gauge to check clear-
ance between shoes and guide on opposite
side.
•
Replace each shoe at which the feeler gauge fits.
•
Recheck clearances. If the 0.5 mm (0.02 in) feel-
er gauge fits between the new shoe and the
guide, replace the primary inner plate.
•
Check the action of the shoes.
Assembling:

•
Uniformly coat tracks of primary inner plate with
approx. 20 g (0.71 oz.) of grease and install roll-
ers.
•
Lightly grease O-ring and install.
•
Mount spring clips and shoes on driver and
grease recesses of shoes.
Operating fluids:
Shell Retinax HDX2 ............. approx. 20 g (0.71 oz.)
•
Place driver in position.
•
Secure variator cover.
•
Check action of driver.

Note:
Check position of O-ring and wipe off excess
grease.

Tightening torques:
Retaining screws............................................ 4 Nm
