Removing camshaft gears
Replacing guide rail
•
Secure crankshaft at TDC.
•
Remove securing screws.
•
Remove guide rail.

Note:
Make sure that the timing chain does not drop into
the cavity. Use locking element to keep timing chain
tensioned at all times.
•
Remove chain tensioner.
•
Remove screws securing camshaft gears.

Note:
Use a marker to mark the TDC line on the inlet cam-
shaft gear.
•
Remove camshaft gears.

Cylinder head cover removed.
–
Chain tensioner removed.

Lift guide rail up to remove.
•
When installing, seat rail in recess (arrow).
11 31 101 Replacing chain tensioning rail
–
Remove freewheel gear.
•
Slacken collar screw.
•
Remove tensioning rail.
When installing:
•
Remove all traces of old thread-locking com-
pound from the threads.
•
Coat threads of collar screw with Loctite and in-
stall.
Operating fluids:
Collar screw .......................................LOCTITE 243
X
Tightening torque:
Collar screw ................................................. 10 Nm
