Note:
Flats on rollers are permissible within the framework
defined by the wear limits
Wear due to rollers on the cam tracks of the inner
plate is permissible
Assembling:
Uniformly coat tracks of inner plate with approx.
20 g (0.7 oz.) of grease and install rollers
Lightly grease O-ring and install
Mount spring clips and shoes on driver and
grease recesses of shoes
Uniformly grease interior of spacer
Spray ground faces of crankshaft stub
Materials:
Shell Retinax HDX2 ............... approx. 20 g (0.7 oz.)
Spacer and friction face .. ,Klüber paste 46 MR 401
Crankshaft stub................ Klüber paste 46 MR 401
Place driver in position
Check action of driver
Secure variator cover
L
Note:
Check position of O-ring and wipe off excess grease
X
Tightening torque:
Retaining screws............................................ 4 Nm

Replacing complete driving variator

(Inspection III) every 22,500 km (13,500 miles)

Note:
The nut is secured with a thread-locking compound
Using holder, BMW No. 11 7 521, loosen outer
plate and remove driving variator with spacer
Remove all traces of thread-locking compound
from the crankshaft
Clean housing and variator cover
