Removing Gearbox Shafts - BMW C1 Repair Manual

•
Remove securing screws.
•
Install two M6x70 screws in tapped bores (ar-
rows) and pull off cover.
•
Use screwdriver to pry out shaft sealing ring.

Note:
Remove variator shaft complete with cover.
•
Check sealing face for damage.
•
Check condition of cylindrical rollers.
•
Check bearing journals for discoloration.

Removing gearbox shafts

– Remove gearbox cover.
•
Remove thrust washer (arrow) from intermediate
shaft.
•
Remove seal.
•
Tap output shaft lightly with plastic-headed ham-
mer to release it from push fit in grooved ball
bearing and shaft sealing ring.
•
Remove intermediate shaft and thrust washer
beneath it.

When installing:

Note:
Grease one side of a thrust washer for intermediate
shaft and affix it to flat of large gear.
•
Install sealing plug with copper sealing ring.
•
Oil stub of intermediate shaft and install.
•
Position variator shaft in cover.
•
Position output shaft in grooved ball bearing.
•
Mount second thrust washer on intermediate
shaft.
•
Install seal.

Shaft seats ........................Klüber paste 46 MR 401

Tightening torques:
Drain plug .................................................... 20 Nm
Oil filler plug .................................................. 5 Nm
