Assembling driven variator

•
Pack space between the two shaft sealing rings
with 4-5 g (0.14-0.17 oz.) of grease.
•
Grease O-rings and insert into grooves.
•
Using guide, BMW No. 11 7 644, position outer
plate on inner plate.
•
Coat guide sleeves and guide pin with grease
and insert into 3 recesses in secondary outer
plate.

Note:
Take care not to damage O-rings.
•
Install guide cover and position it on pin of outer
plate.
Operating fluids:
Shell Retinax HDX2 ...............4 - 5 g (0.14-0.17 oz.)

Assembly is spring-loaded - risk of injury.

Operating fluids:
Counternut ............................................ Loctite 243
X
Nut ............................................................... 50 Nm
Position driven variator on special assembly tool,
BMW No. 11 7 642.
Position spring on pin (arrow) of guide bow.
Engage clutch at end of spring.
Caution:
Place retaining fixture, BMW No. 11 7 641, in
position.
Turn clutch (parallel lines) counter-clockwise un-
til flats are aligned.
Engage hooks of retaining fixture in lower belt-
pulley plate.
Coat the threads of the counternut with Loctite
Tighten nut with specially ground socket,
BMW No. 11 7 643.
