17.16 Memory Card
Troubles
Intermec EasyCoder 601 XP – Service Manual Ed. 3
Description:
The printer cannot read a memory card.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Wrong type of memory card.
- The memory cards must either be flash memory cards, or PC
memory cards complying with the JEIDA-4 standard.
PCMCIA-cards may not work properly.
• Protection switch on DOS-formatted card incorrectly set.
- Check that the write protect switch on the memory card is
enabled. If so, try another similar memory card.
• No card inserted at startup.
- The card must be inserted before the power is switched on or
the printer is rebooted.
• Bad connection.
- Pull out and push back the card a few times to see if it was not
poor contact, e.g. oxidation, between card and adapter.
Note! The printer must be turned off.
• Error in content of the card.
- If you have access to a PC equipped with a card reader, list the
memory content of the PC memory card to see if it is correct.
- In case of a SRAM card, the information stored may have got
lost due to some malfunction in the card's battery backup or an
empty battery.
- If you can communicate with the printer via a PC, you could
see what files are stored in the memory card and the size of
them with the aid of Intermec Fingerprint commands FILES
"rom:" (non DOS-formatted cards), or FILES "card1:" (DOS-
formatted cards).
• Hardware error.
- Inspect the memory card for mechanical damage.
- Examine the memory card adapter on the CPU board for
breakage or bad soldering.
