/. Intermec Net-PrintSet program is
available both as a stand-alone program
and as a plug-in for Netscape Navigator

versions for both Windows 95 and
Windows NT 4.0
Intermec EasyCoder 601 XP – Service Manual Ed. 3
The prerequisite for Intermec Fingerprint to start is that a flash
memory SIMM with a boot sector is fitted in P22 (marked "ROM2
Boot-Bank"). A DRAM SIMM must also be installed in P23
(marked "RAM0").
The printer can easily be updated with resources such as new
firmware versions, more fonts, application programs, images etc.
Ready-to-use configuration files (.uff) as well as binary (.bin) files
are available via the Intermec home page.
Configuration files (.uff) can be transmitted directly via the standard
serial IN port to the printer, or be copied to a memory card. Intermec
Shell contains a facility ("Software Update") that guides the
operator through the process.
A configuration file (.uff) can also be created from a binary file (.bin)
containing a specific Fingerprint version by means of the Intermec

Net-PrintSet
software. In Net-PrintSet, you can combine the
Fingerprint firmware with e.g. additional fonts. The resulting .uff
file can either to be transmitted directly to the printer, or be saved
for binary copying to a memory card, for distribution, or for later
use.
An inserted memory card containing such a .uff file will automati-
cally be recognized as an update card during power on and the new
firmware will be copied to the printers internal flash-memory,
replacing the old firmware.
At power up, the printer starts executing code in the boot sector and
one of the following sequences will be performed:
1. A flash card with a firmware is recognized.
- The firmware will be copied from the memory card to the
internal DRAM.
- The processor will start to execute code from DRAM.
- The firmware on the memory card will be copied to the internal
flash memory.
2. A valid firmware is recognized in the internal flash memory.
- The firmware will be copied to DRAM and the processor will
start execute code from DRAM.
If the printer is fitted with an EasyLAN 100i interface board, there
are also facilities for updating the firmware via Ethernet. See special
documentation that comes with the EasyLAN 100i board.
After the initial boot sequence is performed, the number of steps
will be taken before Fingerprint starts. The startup procedure can be
followed on the printer's display and from the host provided a strap
is temporarily fitted on pins 2–3 on P12 on the CPU board.
Connection between printer and host should use the default serial
communication setup (9600 baud, 8 bits, parity none, 1 stop bit) on
the standard serial port "uart1:".
For each of the steps , either "OK" or "Fail" is returned on "uart1:".
In addition, some other useful information is also returned.
