Quick Start
Using controllers to vary a KARMA phrase
When the R.TIME KNOBS/KARMA button is lit,
KARMA is controlled by Sliders 1‐8 and both rows of
buttons. The sliders are KARMA CONTROLS 1‐8, the
lower row of buttons are KARMA SWITCHES 1–8, and
the upper row of buttons select KARMA Scenes.
Depending on the selected Program or Combi, these
controls will vary the generated phrase or pattern in
different and useful ways.
1. If the KARMA function is turned off, press the
KARMA ON/OFF switch to make the LED light.
2. Play the keyboard or pads.
The KARMA function will begin generating a phrase.
3. Press the upper row of buttons, one by one, to
select different KARMA Scenes.
Notice how this also changes the KARMA SWITCH
and KARMA SLIDER settings shown in the LCD
screen. In other words, you can move between entirely
different settings of all these controls simply by
pressing a KARMA SCENE switch.
4. On the display, press the KARMA GE tab.
This calls up the KARMA GE page, which gives you a
more detailed picture of the settings. It shows the GE
(Generated Effect) that's selected for the KARMA
module, the time signature for the pattern that's being
generated, and the KARMA CONTROLS assignments.

program to the saved version, from before you started
editing. You can also compare back and forth between
the edited and saved versions.
1. Press the front‐panel COMPARE switch.
The COMPARE LED will light, and the Program's
saved settings will be recalled.
2. Press the COMPARE switch again, to return to the
edited settings.
The COMPARE LED will go dark, and the sound will
return to the edited version. You can switch back and
forth as many times as you like.
Resetting individual controllers
You can also reset individual controllers, such as the
the vector joystick or any control surface slider, knob,
or switch. To do so:
1. Hold down the front‐panel RESET CONTROLS
switch.
2. While holding down the switch, move or press the
control that you'd like to reset.
3. Release the RESET CONTROLS switch.
The controller will be reset.
For more information, see "Resetting controls to their
saved values" on page 52.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed your quick introduction to the
OASYS. There are so many programs and
combinations that you probably didn't actually finish
playing them all, so why not take a break from playing,
and take some time to listen to the OASYS' demo
songs.
