INSTALLING THE PISTONS AND CYLIN-
DERS
The following procedure applies to all of the pis-
tons and cylinders.
1. Install:
S top ring 1

S 2nd ring 2
S lower oil ring rail 3
S upper oil ring rail 4

S oil ring expander 5

NOTE:
S Be sure to install the piston rings so that the
manufacturer's marks or numbers a are lo-
cated on the upper side of the rings.
S The piston rings that have an "R" mark must be
installed into the 2nd ring groove.
2. Install:
S piston 1
S piston pin 2
S piston pin clip (New) 3
NOTE:
S Apply engine oil onto the piston pin.
S Make sure that the arrow mark a on the piston
points towards the exhaust side of the engine.
S Before installing the piston pin clip, cover the
crankcase opening with a clean rag to prevent
the piston pin clip from falling into the crank-
case.
S Reinstall each piston into its original cylinder
(numbering order starting from the left: #1 to
#4).
