Dome light activation
Telligence Patient-Staff Communication System Operation Manual
Dome lights are only as smart as the devices that drive them. By
themselves, even the intelligent Infinity series dome lights can
accomplish only basic functions, such as turning on and off a given
color in a light section or generating an auditory tone.
Intelligent dome light signaling
Staff consoles, annunciators, patient stations, Smart Staff/Duty
Stations, and peripheral stations like staff emergency stations,
presence stations, and call stations in patient or staff rooms all drive
intelligent dome lights.
Nurse calls are typically initiated, and sometimes upgraded, at
patient or staff stations. Calls can also be initiated, upgraded, and
put on reminder at staff consoles and annunciators. Whether it is a
patient or a staff member pressing buttons or pulling cords at
patient and staff stations, or a staff member working at a staff
console, sections in intelligent dome lights function in these ways as
a result:
•
Illuminate in a color signaling the nurse call type
•
Illuminate steadily or flash in various rates, as follows:
•
Flashing for a dome light error
•
Fast flashing for an emergency call
•
Slow flashing for a lower priority nurse call that is still cause
for concern, or for a call that is on reminder
•
Steadily for a normal priority request
•
Change color and change from steady illumination to a slow
flash, or from a slow flash to a fast flash, when a nurse call is
upgraded
•
Steadily illuminate in a color signaling a staff level presence
registered for a room
•
Illuminate in a color signaling the highest staff level priority
assigned when a nurse call is put on reminder
What dome light sections signal
The top light section in 2-section dome light models, and the top two
light sections in 4-section dome light models, are devoted to
annunciation of nurse call types, via designated colors flashing at
designated rates. The top two sections in a 4-section dome light
may illuminate simultaneously. With more than one call type to
display in one light section, the highest priority nurse call is shown.
In a 2-section dome light, the bottom light section shows presence
or reminder staff levels. In a 4-section dome light, the third light
