Upgrading from G2 to G3 Firmware

Overview

This section describes how to upgrade touch panel firmware to version 3.xx. Up-
grading touch panels involves both hardware and software operations to convert
panels to G3. The new G3 firmware uses more of the panel's memory than the previ-
ous firmware versions. Icons, bitmaps, and non-panel fonts will use more memory
than before.

Preparing the Touch Panel for Communication

Before upgrading any touch panel, you must use the following software to first back
up the pages to your computer so you can later download these stored pages to the
upgraded touch panel. You must use TPDesign to communicate to older panels with
firmware version 2.XX (or lower). TPDesign3 software communicates to panels using
the G3 firmware.
Features of the TPDesign3 Touch Panel Program:
Support for Unicode fonts
Support for any panel using G3 firmware
Save files from one type of panel to another
Sort bitmaps in the Bitmap Editor
Fully functional modem support
Touch panels can be connected to an AXlink Bus Strip (ABS) (Figure 215), that in turn
is connected to any Central Controller.
