14 Setup for Novell Networks
The HP SureStore CD/DVD-ROM Server acts as a normal NetWare
file server; you use the standard tools such as NWADMIN,
SYSCON, and Filer for handling security. Two bindery modes are
described below—with user authentication and without user
authentication.
With Authentication
If user access control is desired, you must specify an authentication
server to the CD/DVD-ROM server. The server must log into the
authentication server briefly to authenticate the user and identify
the groups the user belongs to. In this case, the authentication
server must have a standby license for the server, but several
servers can share this license. If a license is not available, the user
may still be authenticated but group information cannot be read.
All user accounts must allow two concurrent logins, not the
Novell default of one login.
Authorized users have configurable rights to the volumes of the
HP CD/DVD-ROM server. Authorization of users is done using an
existing NetWare server, here referred to as the authentication
server.
Use the Quick Setup web page and either the wizard or the Detailed
View. Set Bindery mode and specify the authentication server for
Bind Authentication.
The authentication process reduces Network Administrator
overhead. The Administrator does not have to maintain a separate
user database for HP CD/DVD-ROM servers. If the user is defined
in the file server that the HP CD/DVD-ROM server uses for
authentication, the Administrator will not have to do anything to
give the user access to the HP CD/DVD-ROM server.
Authentication to a NetWare 3.x Server. For access to the
HP CD/DVD-ROM server connected to a NetWare 3.x Server,
authentication is validated through a user list in the bindery of the
NetWare server:
If the user is on the list, the user's password will be verified and
the user will be granted access.
If the password is incorrect, login will fail.
If the user is not on the list, the user will not be granted access
to the HP CD/DVD-ROM server. However, the user could log in
as "guest" and get access to volumes that are not protected.
