After you set up your own access to the server from a workstation
on the network using the instructions in the previous section,
"Client Access to Discs" starting on page 5-2, you can configure the
server.
Use the Wizard on the Quick Setup page. Select NetWare (NCP).
Select NDS. Settings you will need are:
•
NDS Tree name. Example: NPSD
•
Account with Supervisor rights. Use the Browse button to select
the account—as the relative distinguished name of a user or
administrator (with Supervisor rights to the root for the first
installation and later with Supervisor or Create rights in the
NDS tree context. Example: ADMIN.OU.NPSD.HP
•
Password for the account set (see previous item).
•
NDS Tree Context. Example: OU.NPSD.HP
Clicking the wizard's Finish button causes the server to restart for
the settings to take effect. Several minutes afterward, the server
should be installed in the NDS tree, and users will be able to access
the server using NDS mode.
Next, use NetWare Administrator (NWADMIN) to set up the access
right on the sys volume of the server.
You must log out and then log in again to have all the necessary
rights on the server object and the associated volume.
Verify proper installation by running NetWare Administrator
(NWADMIN). The server should appear as a NetWare NDS File
server. Examine the properties in NWADMIN. The server status
should be "UP".
If the server does not appear in the NDS tree, or if it appears
but the status is down or unknown, check for error messages in
the server's log file. Refer to "NetWare NDS Installation Errors"
on page 10-13 for corrective action for each error message.
We recommend that you disable bindery mode (using the Bindery
selection that immediately precedes the NDS selection on the
second page of the NetWare wizard), after you have successfully
installed the server in NDS, and allow users to log on in NDS
mode only.
Note
If NDS mode is not functioning, you can always access the
server in bindery mode by logging in as supervisor using the
password on the server, even if bindery mode is disabled.
