Archiving and Replacing Discs

What is
Archiving allows you to store more discs for user access than those
Archiving?
fitting into the tower's drives at one time. Archiving uses the hard
drive to store a persistent copy of a disc, a full "mirror" copy of all
disc data that persists after you remove the actual disc.
If the data is already mirrored (see "Caching" on page 8-1),
archiving will make the copy persistent. Archiving is performed
independent of the setting of the cache mode (see "Cache Modes" on
page 8-2).
Archiving a disc can take up to five minutes (or a few seconds if a
mirror of the disc has already been cached), but the disc is
meanwhile accessible from the CD-ROM drive. When the archive is
complete, an information event is added to the log file (and sent as
e-mail if Errors, Warnings, & Info are configured with an e-mail
address). In addition, by default the disc will be ejected
automatically after archiving, to indicate that you can insert
another disc into that CD-ROM drive.
A warning event will be logged if not enough hard drive space is
available for an archive.
Auto-archiving causes every disc you insert into a CD-ROM drive to
be automatically archived, as long as hard drive space is available.
By default, the server auto-archives every disc you insert.
