Configuring the Server

By making configuration changes, you can customize server
operation and can set access rights for security.
Some server configuration changes you might need:
Set up a password for the server.
Set up the server name.
Disable access to the server using protocols other than SMB.
Set up disc access rights using share-level security, or using
user-level security with NT domain authentication.
This chapter provides information for some of the configuration
options, if they are general needs or relate specifically to SMB
networks. If you are also using TCP/IP on your network, see
chapter 3 for additional features. If you are also using
Novell NetWare, see chapter 5.
HP recommends the web method of configuration. A browser
and the server's web pages can be used for configuration, as long as
HTTP is available. This is an easy way to make changes to the
configuration and access files stored on the server. See "Web
Browser Configuration" on page 3-12 for an introduction.
Text Editing is an alternative method. If you don't have IP,
HTTP, and a web browser, you can use a text editor to directly edit
and save the configuration file stored on the server. Precision in
editing the files is required. See page 3-6 for details.
In the Detailed View (from the Quick Setup page), you can switch
off all access to the server through other protocols for which you do
not set up access restrictions.
You can disable NetWare access under the NetWare tab by using
the Enable NetWare setting. You can disable UNIX access under
the UNIX tab using the Enable NFS setting.
To continue administering the server using the web browser, do
not disable HTTP access under the Web (HTTP) tab.
If you should ever need to disable Microsoft Windows SMB access,
disable the NetBIOS Protocol Bindings for both NetBEUI and
TCP/IP under the Windows (SMB) tab.
You must restart the server to effect these Detailed View settings.
