Methods for
Configuration
As an alternative to setting up clients individually as described
above, login scripts can be used to automate and distribute access to
the discs. To map the networked discs, the attach/map (in
NetWare 3.x) or login/map (in NetWare 4.x) commands are
normally used.
Configuring the Server
By making configuration changes, you can customize server
operation and set access rights for security.
The following Novell environments require some configuration of
the server itself before setting up the client access. The
configuration is included in this section.
•
Novell NetWare 4.x and 5 NDS (Novell Directory) Server
•
Novell NetWare/IP in NetWare 4.x, and in NetWare 5 only in
compatibility mode.
You cannot use this server with NetWare 5 in its pure
IP implementation.
The following Novell environment allows some access configuration
options to be configured either before or after giving access to all the
clients.
•
NetWare 3.x bindery server networks
Other server configuration changes that Novell network may need:
•
Disable access using protocols other than NetWare.
•
Set up or change the server name for Novell clients.
•
Set up a password to be used with the bindery server.
•
Set the server's time synchronization.
•
Show all volumes.
This chapter provides information for some of the configuration
options, if they are general needs or relate specifically to Novell
networks. If you are also using TCP/IP on your network, see
chapter 3 for additional features.
HP recommends the web method of configuration if a web browser
and IP and HTTP are available. Text editing is an alternative
method (see page 3-6).
