1.2.2.4 Definition of load capacity / useful load / overall net weight / net load
Load capacity
Load capacity is used to refer to the maximum load that may be attached below the beam. De-
pending on the configuration of the beams, the load capacity of medical ceiling supply units var-
ies and may not be exceeded.
Useful load
Useful load refers to the load with which the beam may additionally be loaded without exceeding
the maximum permitted load capacity. It is maximum weight of accessories or medical devices
belonging to the customer which can be carried by the whole ceiling supply unit. The useful load
is calculated using the load capacity minus the net weight of all attached modules, accessories
and all other products on the accessory mounting points:
[Useful load] = [Load capacity] − [Overall net weight]
Overall net weight
The overall net weight is required for the calculation of the useful load and is made up of the net
weights of all attached modules, all accessories and all additional products on the accessory
mounting points:
[Overall net weight] = Net weight [modules + accessories + additional products]
Net load
The net load specifies the load with which an accessory / accessory mounting point may be
loaded. The Stickers [8 Page 79] on the relevant accessories specify the maximum net load of
the accessory / accessory mounting point.
Dependencies
The definitions above result in the following dependencies that must always be observed:
• The overall net weight may never exceed the load capacity:
[Load capacity] ≥ [Overall net weight]
• The useful load combined with the overall net weight may never exceed the load capacity:
[Load capacity] ≥ [Useful load] + [Overall net weight]
