Calculate the useful load of the medical ceiling supply units
4
Examples of a useful load calculation:
The useful load is the weight load with which the beam may additionally be loaded without ex-
ceeding the maximum permitted load capacity. The useful load is derived by subtracting the load
capacity from the overall net weight:
[Load capacity] − [Overall net weight] = [Useful load]
The maximum permitted load capacity results from the combination and length of the arms and
is specified by Maquet, in this example: 296 kg
The overall net weight is defined as follows and must be calculated since the composition of the
modules, accessories and additional products is variable:
[Overall net weight] = [Net weights of all attached modules + Accessories + other products at
mounting points]
in this example: 3 kg + 14 kg + 6.4 kg + 5 kg + 6.9 kg = 35.3 kg
This results in the following useful load calculation for the example shown:
[Load capacity: 296 kg] − [Overall net weight: 35.3 kg] = [Useful load: 260.7 kg]

The useful load calculated above still should
be compared to the Distributor Max. Load
presented by the label attached onto the sus-
pension tube. The final useful load for cus-
tomer should be the lower one of the two val-
ues.
In this case, the useful load calculated is
260.7 kg, and the Distributor Max. Load
presented by the label attached onto the sus-
pension tube is 200 kg, then the final useful
load for customer is 200 kg.
But if in a case the useful load calculated is
140.5 kg, and the Distributor Max. Load
presented by the label attached onto the sus-
pension tube is 197 kg, then the final useful
load for customer is 140.5 kg.
