Why can't I boot from the diskette drive?
To boot from the diskette drive, be sure that you have a diskette in drive A:
containing operating system files. Also, be sure that you have the BootUp Sequence set
to A:, C: in Advance CMOS Setup in the BIOS. See Chapter 3, "Using Setup,". Also see
your operating system documentation for information about creating system diskettes.
NOTE
The system looks for the drive containing operating system files. If
you have a diskette with operating system's files in drive A:, the system
boots from the diskette drive. If you do not have a diskette in drive A:, the
system boots from the hard disk.
A diskette without operating system files in drive A prevents a system boot
and displays the error message, "Non system disk or disk error. Replace
and strike any key when ready."
What is the difference between a warm boot and a cold boot?
A warm boot restarts the system while system power is on. A warm boot is also
a software reset. A warm boot clears volatile system memory and reloads the operating
system.
To use a warm boot, press and hold
the system resets.
A cold boot is a system start with power off. A cold boot also resets the hardware. It
checks the hardware and reloads the operating system.
Press the system unit power switch to perform a cold boot. If power is on, turn the power
off using the system unit power switch, wait at least five seconds, and then turn the
power on.
NOTE
When possible, use a warm boot to restart your notebook.
