(3) Rotor management

If you have a rotor with an optical disk (refer to Section 2-2-4 "Rotor Adapter/Disk"), you
can register the rotor and its serial number in the instrument to use it in setting
operations and control total run time and number of runs.
Rotor life management is essential in operating an ultracentrifuge. Each rotor has a finite lifespan
determined by the number of runs or total operation hours.
Care must be taken not to exceed the specified life of a rotor since it could lead to serious accidents.
(For details, refer to the rotor instruction manual.)
The CP-NX Series comes with a function that automatically collects the number of runs and total run time
(referred to as life management data below) to enable automatic life management. Using a rotor with an
RLM adapter that can record life management data in the adapter makes it possible to extend rotor life.
The rotor model and serial number of a rotor with an optical disk have to be recorded in the memory
of the instrument and memory data has to be updated. If the rotor is also used in other centrifuges,
none of the centrifuges it is used in will have access to the complete life management data. Therefore
it is necessary to manually update the life management data when such a rotor is used in more than
one instrument.

2) Function of a rotor with an RLM adapter
Rotors with an RLM adapter have a magnetic memory function at the bottom of
the rotor. An RLM adapter stores the following data.
(1)
Rotor model
(2)
Rotor serial number
(3)
Total number of runs
(4)
Total run time
The life management data is updated about each 1,000 rpm.
CAUTION: Use a "Rotor log" to keep track of life management data for rotors with an optical disk.
CAUTION: RLM adapters have a magnetic memory and should not be exposed to magnetic fields
or magnetic materials.Exposing the RLM adapter of the rotor to magnetic materials will
delete memory data and cause an alert to go off and prevent further use of the rotor.
To protect the memory data stored in an RLM adapter, rotors with an RLM adapter
must be stored in the supplied rotor stand (rotor stand for adapter protection).
