Chapter 8
Auto-tuning execution step
1
Parameter presetting
(1) Set "Async. Motor capacity, 1st-motor [H003]" and "Async. Motor number of poles, 1st-
motor [H004]" according to the motor to be used.
(2) Match the "Base frequency, 1st-motor [A003]" and "Motor rated voltage, 1st-motor
[A082]" to the specifications of the motor to be measured. If there is no selection in
[A082] that matches the motor rated voltage, set the closest and higher value. Also, set
"Output voltage gain, 1st-motor [A045]" so that the equation is as follows.
Output voltage gain [A045] × Motor rated voltage [A082] = Motor rated voltage
(3) Set "DC braking selection [A051]" and "Simple positioning selection [P012]" to "Disable
(00)". If they are not "Disable (00)", the correct measurement will not be made.
(4) Set the motor cable length in "Motor cable length code selection [b033]."
The motor cable length code selection is a parameter that corrects the current detection
accuracy due to difference in motor cable length. It is not necessary to set for models of
11 kW and 15 kW. If the motor cable length is long (exceeding 20 m), sufficient auto-
tuning may not be performed.
(5) Do not turn on "Permission of torque control [ATR] (52)" of the input terminal function. If
[ATR] is turned on, the correct measurement will not be performed.

Selection of "With rotation" and "Without rotation"
 Set to [H001] whether the motor rotates or not during auto-tuning. Each has the following
characteristics.

Mandatory Setting for Motor Drive and Test Run
The motor constants are measured without rotating the motor. Use
this function when the motor must not rotate. Since the motor does
not rotate, the motor constant I0 (no-load current) and motor constant
J (moment of inertia) cannot be measured.
Even if "Without rotation", the motor may rotate slightly.
The motor constants are measured by actually rotating the motor. Use
this function when there is no problem even if the motor rotates.
 When "With rotation" is selected, pay attention to the following points.
- Rotating up to about 80% of the base frequency shall not cause any
problem.
- The motor is not driven by external force.
- The brake is open.
 Since the output torque is not much during auto-tuning, there is a
possibility that the load machine may fall down in a lift or similar
applications. In such applications, remove the motor from the load
machine and perform auto-tuning on the motor alone. Since the motor
constant J (moment of inertia) to be measured is a value for motor only,
separately add the value obtained by converting the moment of inertia of
the load machine to the motor axis and set it.
 Since in case of the machine that motor shaft rotation amount is limited
(lift, ball screw, etc.), the machine may be damaged due to the drive
exceeding the allowable rotation amount, select "Without rotation" or
remove the motor from the load machine and perform auto-tuning on the
motor alone.
