Installing Expansion Cards

The system board has seven expansion slots:
One AGP expansion slot for a graphics card
Two ISA-bus 8/16-bit expansion slots
Four 32-bit PCI local bus interface expansion slots
The ISA slot and PCI slot next to each other share a slot location. You can
use one or the other slot, but not both. The maximum number of slots that
can be filled is six.
Some ISA expansion cards have jumpers or switches that set interrupts and
I/O addresses. To set the jumpers and switches, follow the instructions that
come with the cards.
See the figure on page 11 for the location of the expansion slots.
Turn off the system and unplug the power cord.
1.
Remove the cover side panel (see page 3 for instructions), observing
2.
the static electricity precautions on page 2.
If there is an expansion card installed in the slot you want to use,
3.
remove it:
Unplug the cables connecting the card to other devices.
Remove the screw that attaches the card to the chassis.
Grasp the upper corners of the card, and pull the card out of the
slot. If the card is difficult to remove, rock the card back and forth
slightly as you pull the card out of the slot. Do not bend the card or
you may damage it.
If a port cover is installed in the panel next to the slot you want to use,
4.
remove the screw that attaches the port cover to the rear panel and pull
the cover out of the chassis. Save the port cover for reinstallation in
case you ever remove the card.
To install an expansion card
Note:
To remove or install an
expansion card, you need a
grounding wrist strap and a
Phillips screwdriver. If you
remove an expansion card,
make sure to place it in an
antistatic bag.
