    Opening the Case The case of your system is made up of two side panels, a top panel, and a front bezel. To install or remove most components inside your system, you must remove the panel on the right side (as seen from the back of the system).

    Installing Add-In Cards The system board has eight expansion slots: • One AGP expansion slot for a graphics card • Six 32-bit PCI local bus interface expansion slots • One 8/16-bit ISA expansion slot The maximum number of slots that you can fill is seven. The ISA slot and PCI slot next to each other share a slot location.

  • Page 32 Insert the edge of the new add-in card into the slot. Push the card into the slot until the card is fully seated in the slot. Make sure that the edge of the slot cover attached to the card fits between the system board and the chassis.

    Installing Drives in the Middle Drive Cage You can install 3.5-inch hard drives in the middle drive cage.     Replacing the CMOS Battery Your system board uses a 3-V coin-type lithium battery. If the settings you enter in the Setup utility are not saved when you turn off the computer, replace the battery. If your battery is failing, you may notice your system clock slowing down and giving you the incorrect time.

    Replacing the Control Panel The control panel holds the LEDs and switches on the front of the system. To remove and install the control panel, you need a Phillips screwdriver.   • Page 50 To install an LED, push the tab at the bottom of the LED slot outward and hold it. Push the LED through the bottom of the panel. Replace the panel on the chassis, making sure the tab on the panel is inserted into the slot in the chassis.

    Remove the screw on the back of the chassis that holds the fan duct in place. Then slide the fan duct up until the tabs on the duct are disengaged from the slots in the chassis. Lift the duct out of the chassis. Slots Duct Maintaining and Troubleshooting Your E-5250 System...
  • Page 52 With the flat-blade screwdriver, push out the four plastic rivets that attach the fan to the chassis. Support the fan as you remove the last rivet. Place the new fan into the system, aligning the rivet holes in the fan with those in the chassis.

  • Page 54 Lift the power supply out of the chassis. Check the red voltage switch on the back of the new power supply. Be sure it is set to the correct voltage for your area. Line up the holes in the new power supply with the screw holes in the back of the chassis.

  • Page 56 Remove the two screws that attach the top bracket to the processor slot and lift the bracket out of the chassis. Gently pull the processor (or terminator card) out of the processor slot. If necessary you can rock the processor (or terminator card) back and forth slightly to loosen it from the connector.

    Replacing the System Board To remove and install the system board, you need a Phillips screwdriver and a flat-blade screwdriver. Make sure to place all static-sensitive devices in antistatic bags. See the figures on page 10 and page 11 for the location of the system board and the location of connectors on the board.
